Convention on KIIT-IS MUN

Second KiiT IS MUN KiiT IS MUN on 9th, 10th and 11th August 2013. The school had a festive fervor, with more than 350 delegates in its premises to discuss debate and derive solutions for world issues. Supported by the Odisha Debating Society, United Nations Information Centre for India and Bhutan, the MUN Summit became the cynosure of the city with delegates from United World College joining in to give it a global flavor. Meticulous planning coupled with an eye for detail made sure that the MUN opened to a packed auditorium full of youngsters, who had braced themselves for a productive debate. The second KiiT IS MUN has 6 Councils in all, including the Harry Potter inspired Ministry of Magic with its Goblet of Fire, Futuristic Council on Population, UN Office of Drug and Crime with special emphasis on South America, and the East Asia Summit for 25 South East Asian Countries, African Union for Empowerment of Women.

The welcome address for the inaugural function was given by Dr. Mona Lisa Bal, Chairperson of the School who highlighted the need for informed dialogue in a dynamic world that now cared to listen to voice of the youth, even those so far unheard. Citing the example of Laxman Hembrum of KISS, Representative from India on Malala Day of the United Nations, she urged the young delegates to engage fruitfully and arrive at resolutions for world issues.

Mr. Sanjay Suar, Principal of the school encouraged students to learn from the experience and reap the benefits of the special debating councils like the Ministry of Magic and the Futuristic Council on Population. The Chief Guest for the inaugural session Dr. Ravi Gupta, CEO Elets Technomedia added to the youthful flavor of the moment. A man with many hats, he has been a pioneer in advocacy of technology in the areas of Education, Health Care and Governance. His vision regarding the use of digital media to enhance and streamline the efficacy of these sectors was commended by the Founder, KIIT & KISS, Dr. Achyuta Samanta. Dr. Samanta emphasized on the need for the youth to have exposure, empathy and respect for others less privileged than them. The Secretary General for the KiiT IS MUN, Apoorva Sethupathy, declared the MUN open while Ms. Nikita Ahya gave a brief over view of the event. Mr. S.N. Mohanty, Administrative Officer of the School gave the vote of thanks.
