IGCSE Curriculum


IGCSE (Cambridge) Introduction :

KiiT International School offers the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) program from Grade 8 to 10. Our IGCSE curriculum sets clear goals for learners in the form of external examinations held every May/June at KiiT International School, and for teachers in the form of professional development opportunities within India and abroad. These reliable and rigorous standards ensure a high quality education is maintained. KiiT International School is the only authorized examination centre in the state of Orissa.

IGCSE students have the opportunity to achieve the prestigious Cambridge ICE Award, which is the group award of the IGCSE. In order to achieve the ICE, students are required to study subjects drawn from the five different IGCSE subject groups (see below). The ICE award gives students the opportunity to benefit from KiiT International School's broad and balanced curriculum by recognizing the achievements of those students who pass examinations in at least seven subjects, including two languages, and one subject from each of the other subject groups.

Learning experiences are at the heart of the KiiT I.S. IGCSE program. The IGCSE develops the learner's understanding, motivation, and skills. KiiT I.S. Talented students maybe offered scholarships to the University of Cambridge. Our first IGCSE batch obtained excellent results. Completion of our IGCSE program provides an ideal foundation from which students can enter international programs such as the IB Diploma Programme.

Grade 8: IGCSE/CIE Foundation Programme

The IGCSE/CIE Foundation Programme has been developed by KiiT International School. This is a unique programme which weaves together the best in national and international curriculum content.

Students will take a wide range of subjects. An emphasis will be placed English language development including research and writing skills. Students will also be exposed to a wide range of subjects in the Sciences and Arts, allowing them to make educated subject choices in Grade 9.

At the end of Grade 8 students write the Cambridge Checkpoint tests in English, Mathematics and Science. These tests are marked by Cambridge examiners and provide KiiT International School, parents and students with an external international benchmark for student performance. Cambridge Checkpoint enables feedback to be provided on a learner's strengths and weaknesses in key curriculum areas.

Grade 9 & 10: IGCSE/CIE Programme + IBDP Foundation Programme

Cambridge IGCSE is the world's most popular international curriculum for 14-16 year olds, leading to globally recognised and valued Cambridge IGCSE qualifications.

Cambridge IGCSE encourages learner-centred and enquiry-based approaches to learning. It develops learners' skills in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving, giving learners excellent preparation for the next stage in their education.

Clearly defined learning outcomes and content, mean Cambridge IGCSE is compatible with other curricula and is internationally relevant and sensitive to different needs and cultures.

KiiT International School offers a wide range of subjects offering a variety of routes for learners of different abilities. Cambridge IGCSE develops learner knowledge, understanding and skills in:

Assessment for Cambridge IGCSE usually takes place at the end of the two-year course and includes written and oral tests, coursework and practical assessment.
KiiT International School is an official Cambridge IGCSE examination center. Examinations are held in May/June with results issued in August.
The Cambridge IGCSE, which provides excellent preparation for the IB Diploma Programme.
Grade 10: IBDP Foundation Programme

For a variety of reasons, some parents and students may wish to join the international curriculum in Grade 10. For this reason, KiiT international school had developed the IBDP Foundation Programme. This unique programme has been especially prepared for students who plan to join the IB Diploma Programme the following year in Grade 11.

This specialized programme prepares students for the IBDP in Grade 11 by ensuring all requites knowledge, skills and understanding are covered by the end of Grade 10. This includes the research and writing skills needed in English-language based courses, the review of foreign-language courses, the writing of lab reports in the sciences, and the refinement of performance skills in the Arts.

The IBDP Foundation Programme also pays special attention to developing those abilities that will be necessary for the IBDP Core Requirements: the Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS).

IBDP Foundation Programme gives students the background needed to begin the IBDP with confidence and enthusiasm.
